OUR STORY

Where to begin... Needless to say that this synopsis is by no means the full story, and I, of course, have saved some of the best bits for my speech.

However, it all began with one (what I thought to be) damsel in distress, running around a a dimly lit activity centre one fateful Friday night. However, upon making eye contact, instead of a "Hi.. how are you?", I received 3 shots to the neck in quick succession followed by her disappearing into the darkness. (Photo Left)

Love at first sight? Maybe, but needless to say after 2 weeks of the wounds still healing, she left a lasting impression on me.

Fast forward a few months and turns out, not only do we attend the same university, but we are a part of the same society!

Subsequently our paths crossed on a more frequent basis and we began to attend more events together.

It was clear to me by now that she was not one to get on the wrong side of.

July 2020 - Cornwall

One message from Marta to myself - "Do you want to join me?"

This was the moment it all fell into place. Even looking back retrospectively, both myself and Marta independently have mentioned that during this trip we were both just friends having a good time, enjoying the outside world and some barely cooked steak on a disposable barbeque on a windy beach (Image Left & Below).

However, it was only when I got home, I realised that actually, this slightly dangerous woman, who enjoys walking, kayaking, paintball and more, could in fact be more than a friend?? Crazy thoughts!

A few days later, after an evening of board games and wine, I sent my message. I poured out my heart, took my shot, and you would never guess what she said. She replied "Hmm, I'm not really sure"

Perfect.

We both lack the ability to really articulate ourselves over text and after I visited a few days later, we agreed to a date.

In true student fashion, I provided the finest £3.50 wine money could buy, I attempted to cook chicken in an oven without a tray, pan or grill and given I had no TV, brought out a highly entertaining (almost complete) set of Jenga blocks.

Personally, I thought it went well and the fact she allowed by to still visit after makes me think I didn't do too bad?

Unfortunately, the image has been lost to time, but please enjoy this picture of an unrelated gas bottle in our house in France (If you know you know).

You would have thought at this point, its time to calm down a bit. Its been busy, a lot of trips and adventures, and somewhere in all of this, Marta is trying to become a Doctor or something and I am studying a real university course on what I believe to be something Geography related?

But No.

Let me introduce, Charlie.

There we go! Another year goes by, we move 3 times, get 4 new jobs between us, we buy a car, someone crashes into said car, I bought a drone (Image Below). Marta become a Doctor, I become a glorified stay at home boyfriend (Definitely not a complaint). Life goes on, until I thought I'd shake things up again with one simple question.

The Proposal

Some people maticulously plan these things down to the last detail. As you can imagine, I left a few details out, including but not limited to location, ring, date and/or time and photos.

T-1 Week, ring secured

T-24 hours, someone to take photos secured

T-30 minutes, forget I havent told photographers where to go (mainly as I forgot to plan this bit)

T-15 minutes, location sorted, detials passed on

T- 5 Minutes, as you have gathered, I was making alot of this up on the spot and one thing I had failed to think of was that the ring was in my bag, my bag was on my back. I needed to get the ring from the bag, into my pocket without Marta noticing. I will leave Marta to share in person her honest thoughts on what was going on, however for the purposes of this recap, it involved quite a stinky bin, a camera and alot of blurry photos of houses.

Time, the bridge was clear, photographers in place, her back was turned, I get down on one knee, she turns arround in surpirse (Perfect!) and we just stand there.... a moment goes by and she then timidy saus "Well... Are you going to ask?" Good point, well made. In my adrenaline of the moment, my awe of her beutity and the fact I was just down right petrified, I had forgotten to ask.

For anyone who still might be a bit hazy, I did ask, and she did just about say yes!

The Interim

There we go! A brief summary of our lives thus far. In typical fashion, between then and now, we have moved again twice, got 2 or 3 new jobs? Bought a house, attempted to teach Marta how to ski, and downright had a great time.

This is our opportunity to share with you, our family, a little bit of what is yet to come, and we cant wait until next year to get it all going!

So for now, ready your outfits, rehearse your ABBA and we will see you soon!
